Rural off-grid solar photovoltaic systems require careful planning to address key uncertainties, including variations in user behaviour, possible climate change impacts, and differences between software simulation and optimisation methods.
A key conclusion is that a workflow leveraging open-source software and built around a lightweight PSO algorithm implementation, can provide reliable, replicable, and transparent solutions to support sustainable rural electrification by means of off-grid PV systems.
The results indicate that PSO not only achieves the lowest cost function value but also demonstrates the best computational efficiency and high stability, making it particularly well-suited for rural off-grid energy systems.
